Salve
come scritto nelle linee guida, apro un nuovo topic per un diverso problema.
Dopo lo start di kde senza errori mi trovo di fronte ad un desktop ingestibile con icone molto grandi.
Come mi è stato suggerito ho controllato i messaggi di errore riportati in /var/log/Xorg.0, ovvero:

(EE) AIGLX: Screen 0 is not DRI capable

Cercando su google, si osserva che questo errore può essere presente o meno, ed in alcuni casi non pregiudica il funzionamento di X.
A questo punto mi chiedo se il problema è proprio in xorg.conf oppure è da ricercare da qualche altra parte?

è molto che non uso schede intel, quindi non posso assicurarti soluzioni chirurgiche.
però immagino che tu abbia qualche problema nella compilazione del kernel, e in particolare nel supporto al direct rendering.
prova a guardare le opzioni AGP o DRM di .config, o cercale, con menuconfig, qui dentro:

bu. in ogni caso non è un errore attinente al tuo problema, prova ad eliminare la voce che lo ha provocato (roba di font, evita esperimenti esotici).
invece, bada anche al suggerimento di djinzzzzzzz nell'altro post: hai sistemato VIDEO_CARDS in /etc/make.conf prima di compilare xorg-server?

ed a lanciare un make mrproper o un make clean nella dir del kernel (ovviamente salvando .config e ripristinandolo con make oldconfig) per me è la prova che hai pasticciato nella configurazione del supporto kernel alla scheda video e stai usando X via framebuffer od in risoluzione vga.

Oltre agli errori nel file xorg.0.log ci sono anche informazioni tipo:
- Il dirver che stai utilizzando
- Il monitor che stai utilizzando
- la risoluzione a cui va il monitor
Ora, prima di avviarti verso compilazioni e altre n-mila cose sarebbe il caso di leggere tutto quello che c'è in quel file e non solo le scritte "EE".
Nel caso postalo così possiamo vedere tutti cosa dice

ok ragazzi, ho risolto l'intoppo della compilazione del kernel, ma kde ancora nulla.
Per capire meglio a cosa imputare il problema ho installato gnome come ambiente grafico, ho modificato i valori della variabile USE secondo instruzioni, ho impostato la XSESSION="Gnome".
Ma ottengo ancora gli stessi identici errori:

Questo ci permette di dire che il prob. è proprio e solo xorg.conf?

grazie cloc3 proverò.
In effetti qualcosa è cambiato, seguendo un consiglio di djinnz, ho eliminato .xinitrc, ed ora con startx parte l'ambiente. Quello che ottengo però è un desktop minimale, contenente solo con 3 finestre, un orologio in alto a destra, nessuno sfondo e null'altro. Somiglia a quello che si ottiene quando si configura xorg, se non fosse per l'orologio.

@cloc3: come detto nel post precedente, per comprendere meglio se il problema fosse di xorg o meno, ho installato gnome. Quindi seguendo il tuo consiglio riadattato ho inserito in .xinitrc
digito startx ma ottengo che "exec gnome-session: command not found", e non parte nulla.
Se poi elimino .xinitrc e digito nuovamente startx parte la sessione twm, ma non gnome!.
Secondo la guida se parte la sessione twm, significa che il file xorg.conf è editato correttamente, ma non capisco allora perchè gnome non parte.

l'output di qfile è nullo, mi ritorna il prompt senza risultato.
Com'è possibile che non ho gnome-session? ho impiegato 3 ore per emergere gnome.
che mi conviene fare ?

santa pazienza.
ci sarà stato qualche errore di percorso che ti è sfuggito.
dovresti avere qualche traccia con `emerge --resume -pv`
prova a riemergere gnome e vedere cosa accade.
normalmente portage mette dei log dentro /var/log/portage
solo che quella cartella ha troppa roba dentro.
io, di solito, lancio gli emerge in questo modo:

nohup emerge pippo > ~/out.txt 2> ~/error.txt &

è ridondante, ma vedo subito cosa è successo.

Quello che ho rifatto è stato digitare anche questo in più:

ma secondo me, gnome-session dovrebbe essere nelle dipendenze di gnome.

per intanto, questo mi sembra il primo errore significativo.
ma non so darti la soluzione immediata.
magari fai un tentativo con:

innanzitutto non è un errore ma un warning e come tale può anche essere ignorato.
in secondo luogo Xorg ti dice pure la soluzione, cioè che il Primary Device è stato rilevato sul PCI BusID PCI:0:2:0 ma che nel file xorg.conf è specificato esplicitamente il BusID PCI:0:2:1 (il warning ti dice semplicemente che tale BusID non esiste o che non è una scheda grafica); fortunatamente Xorg è abbastanza intelligente da usare il valore corretto auto-rilevato e non quello errato specificato dall'utente.
dai log leggo:

e come si intuisce facilmente, il modulo DRM del kernel non è stato caricato, quindi nel kernel mancano i moduli agpgart/drm per la Intel 915. configura e ricompila correttamente il kernel, riavvia la macchina e l'errore dovrebbe sparire.
il resto degli errori che hai segnalato non riguardano kernel/DRM/DRI, quindi sarebbe il caso che tu apra un thread per ogni singolo problema (come da netiquette), altrimenti rischi solo di creare confusione e non risolvere nessuno dei tuoi problemi.
