My window titles aren't updating correctly, and I'm suspecting it's a locale issue, but I'm not sure where to look to find out what's wrong.

Here's what happens: The top bar on every window, the one with the window title and the close, minimize, etc. buttons, doesn't show the complete window title if the title contains special characters. I noticed it especially on phpbb2 forums, where the character between the name of the forum and the rest of the title is a bullet/circle. e16 then only shows the name of the forum in the window title and ignores everything from the first special character and out. fbpanel ignores everything if the title contains a special character, and will still show the title of the last page I visited that didn't have a special character in its name. It will update normally once I go to a page without any special characters in its name.

I don't see that neither e16 nor fbpanel has any useflags to enable utf8 or something of that nature, so I'm not sure where to look for more info on this.

Language settings:
Code:
$ env | grep LC_
LC_COLLATE=C
LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8
$ env | grep LANG
LANG=en_GB.UTF-8
LANGUAGE=en_GB.UTF-8

I'm using e16 too, but haven't noticed anything like that.

Could you post a link or two to sites which cause this behaviour?

fwiw, my LANG is set to en_IE@euro.

Hmm...the one I've noticed it with more was a phpbb3 forum after all, so I guess that's not it. http://forum.gothador.com/phpBB3/

I'm sorry I forgot to reply earlier...

What I've noticed is that it actually works fine in links -g, ie in both sites I can see a "bullet" character, and after that "Index page", which changes (for example) to "View forum - Announcements", the total title being "Gothador Community · View forum - Announcements".

However, in both firefox and midori I observe the same behaviour as you, ie all that's shown is "Gothador Community".

Have you tried this under another window manager?

I ask because I think this may actually be a gtk+ issue rather than an e16 one.

For one thing, all three apps mentioned (firefox, midori and fbpanel) are gtk+ apps, and I noticed on both sites in the page source that the title is actually set with the following;
Code:
<title>Gothador Community &bull; View forum - Announcements</title>

IIRC the ampersand is actually an escape character in gtk+ also, which is where I believe the problem may be stemming from.

Try it in any non-gtk+ browser and I'm guessing it'll work as it should.

HTH.

How annoying if that is the case. I'll check with konqueror or whatever the kde browser is called.
