Since upgrading my kernel to 2.6.26, alsamixer is "mixed up"
If I mute "Front" it will also mute the headphones, the volume control on "Master" does nothing, but it will mute/unmute.
"Speaker" is completely redundant.. neither volume control nor mute/unmute do anything.
I've updated alsa-utils to 1.0.0.17, and it still has the same issue.
alsaconf doesn't find anything (and I can see it print:
Code: | modinfo: could not find module snd
modinfo: could not find module snd
modinfo: could not find module snd | )
Help?! |

Hi, are you using the kernel module or the alsa package from portage to make you soundcard works ? |

In-kernel. I tried the portage package alsa-driver but it failed to build (not because I had in-kernel, but an emake recursive failure.) |

I've not had any more luck with this, and I'm beginning to assume that I'll have to wait for a new version of ALSA. |

First of all, make snd-intel-hda a module. The Gentoo ALSA guide is clear on that. Secondly, you really should configure the sound for your kernel thusly: Code: | #
# Sound
#
CONFIG_SOUND=y
#
# Advanced Linux Sound Architecture
#
CONFIG_SND=y
CONFIG_SND_TIMER=m
CONFIG_SND_PCM=m
CONFIG_SND_RAWMIDI=m
CONFIG_SND_SEQUENCER=m
CONFIG_SND_SEQ_DUMMY=m
CONFIG_SND_OSSEMUL=y
CONFIG_SND_MIXER_OSS=m
CONFIG_SND_PCM_OSS=m
CONFIG_SND_PCM_OSS_PLUGINS=y
CONFIG_SND_SEQUENCER_OSS=y
# CONFIG_SND_DYNAMIC_MINORS is not set
# CONFIG_SND_SUPPORT_OLD_API is not set
# CONFIG_SND_VERBOSE_PROCFS is not set

Doing this gives alsa the greatest chance of accessing all sound resources available. This may or may not fix your other issues, but setting up as above is the recommended Gentoo way.
Blessed be!

A month later and I still have no joy. ALSA cannot distinguish between the speaker and the headphones, with the exception of I can mute the headphones and leave the speakers unmuted, but if I mute the speakers, it will mute the headphones, too.
I've just tried remove all ALSA options from kernel and installing alsa-driver, which has the same result.
also have 2.6.26-r1 kernel. |
