|
|
In gnome, whenever I click on Places->Bookmarks followed by a valid bookmark I keep getting the error eg:-
Code: | Could not open location 'file:///home/peter/Documents'
There was an error launching the default
action command associated with this location. |
If I go to open the bookmark in nautilus it opens fine.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Solved - the url handler for file:/// had disappeared. Issuing the following commands from a normal terminal session restored the url handler:-
Code: | peter@eclipse ~ $ gconftool-2 --set --type=string /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/file/command 'nautilus "%s"'
peter@eclipse ~ $ gconftool-2 --set --type=bool /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/file/enabled true
peter@eclipse ~ $ gconftool-2 --set --type=bool /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/file/need-terminal false |
Not quite sure how it disappeared in the first place - there are some posts on google suggesting that installing xfce's thunar might be the culprit here. Anyhow, the above fixes it. |

I had a similar problem with smb: URLs opening in konqueror. mrpete's post helped me fix it (just change 'file' to 'smb' in mrpete's fix).
Code: | $ gconftool-2 --set --type=string /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/smb/command 'nautilus "%s"'
$ gconftool-2 --set --type=bool /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/smb/enabled true
$ gconftool-2 --set --type=bool /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/smb/need-terminal false |
