Transfer activity on a per application basis

Hey,

I was wondering if there's a way to monitor transfer activity on a certain application? I wanna buy an iPhone and listen to internet radio on it, but I want to know how much traffic I should expect so I can choose the appropriate data plan for my phone. I was thinking of testing the radio in Exaile and calculate how much data it downloads, but I dont know how or if it's possible.
