right im just installing gentoo as we speak, im up to the point were i need to choose between gentoo or vanilla sources. Witch do you recommend and whats the difference? |

The vanilla sources are the unmodiffied sources from kernel.org. These are plain kernel sources without any speed hacks or anything like that. Gentoo-sources on the other hand have optimizations and other stuff which makes them faster. However, because of these enhancements some small problems _might_ occur. I recommend you try the gentoo-sources and if your system works fine, use them. Otherwise try other sources. The vanilla sources are perhaps the ones with the lowest performance, but greatest stability (in some areas). _________________ Athlon XP 2000+ Palomino @ 1.667ghz
