Hello all.
I'm a new user to Gentoo, I've tried installing it before but my knowledge of linux was minimal and I turned off of it. Well, I believe my knowledge is enough to be able to try something new, so I downloaded the livecd of the 64-bit gentoo, standard 2008.0 install cd.
When it tries to load the graphical interface, it fails miserably and gives me an output of errors to do with module loading. I'm not sure why it's doing that, so if anyone has some advice on how to fix it that'd be great. I've not tried the 32-bit yet, but it wouldn't do me any good anyway, I have 4 gigabytes of ram.
Thank you for taking the time to read. |

HangmansJoke,
if you have 4 gig of ram, 32bits are enough, anyway... HangmansJoke wrote: | gives me an output of errors to do with module loading. |
this information is not very useful. post the exact error message(s). |

Your amount of RAM doesn't have anything to do with the 32-bit or 64-bit versions. You need to download the LiveCD that is appropriate for your processor architecture. If you want a 64-bit environment (using AMD64 processors or Intel Core processors that support 64-bit) then get the AMD64 CD, otherwise try the x86. Please give us some more information regarding the specs of your computer and the error messages which you are receiving and we will be more than happy to help. _________________ “Truth, like infinity, is to be forever approached but never reached.” --Jean Ayres (1972)

I'd recommend 64Bit (presumably AMD64) since he won't have only 4GB of RAM. I'm sure there's a graphics card in this machine as well, so he's got more than 4GB.
A good method is to boot without the graphics mode.
Apart from that, what Kalos says: info please. _________________ Kali Ma
