This poll was inspired by this post by Dagger.

I guess I am trying to find out more about Bugzilla. :) Overlays should be covered here.

since I found some ebuilds on bugzilla, i have made my own overlay "custom" that has all these that I needed (i have also made my own wine-1.1.2 which was ever so easy)

I would prefer having a "bugzilla-"overlay

Sunrise to some extent is the "bugzilla-"overlay, at least for new packages, but I copy straight from Bugzilla also. Feel free to comment here on what else you have in your overlay.

Bugzilla search sucks almost as much as FGO search. I voted no

I too voted no. Google works very well for searching sites such as fgo and bugzilla.... and as per the original context, it's nice to have things in portage even if they're not ready - just hardmask the ebuilds until they're tested and verified... I guarantee the test base will increase due to people like me who would rather add something to packages.unmask than to set up a local overlay. Granted, both are easy, but if it's in portage then I don't have to worry about downloading the newer versions manually.

Sure but it would be more convenient if the native search worked.

Gentoo's Bugzilla will be upgraded to version 3 at some point. I do not know if that will make a difference.

The purpose of the question was to find out whether you look for ebuilds in Bugzilla, not how, but nevertheless it is interesting that so many people find the build-in search inadequate.

I check bugzilla for ebuilds if there isn't an ebuild in portage for a package I want to install, or if I need a version bump that hasn't made its way into the tree.

Yes, but bugzilla is so hopelessly crap at search indexing that half the time, it doesn't even turn out what you're looking for.

Some information about ebuilds and Bugzilla. Gentoo's Bugzilla is here. Reporting guide here.

regularly. Especially with drivers.

Bugzilla search sucks. And the 'zarro bugs found' message when I KNOW that there is at least one bug about a certain subject gives me homocidal thoughts. But before I write an ebuild and fail, I search there. Less time wasted.

I do not want to get very off topic, but do you also check the contents of overlays for ebuilds before you start witting new ones? If so, which and/or now do you check?

I don't... Personally, I don't like to run overlays, and only use the one I maintain on my local machine. I like having the extensibility of overlays, but hate the idea of a fragmented portage tree... Makes things more difficult on the end-user. You can see me complain similarly on other threads

If I can't find a package with eix, then I look in http://gentoo.zapto.org/ which also includes overlays that are in layman. After that I search bugzilla, then google. Then I start writing an ebuild myself.

I don't care about overlays. I only use one of them - kdesvn-portage. And the local one with ebuilds from bugzilla or copy-renamed and slightly edited ones.
