Hi.
I'm installing gentoo manually, as the installer on the 2008.0 and 2007.0 disks does not work for me (brakes on various steps). I've got the core system up and running (as per the gentoo handbook) and am now installing gnome and a bunch of other stuff.
Gnome has a dependency on gnome-games, which depends on ggz-client-libs. I do not want or need either, but they are a mandatory dependency. Anyway, the ebuild for ggz-client-libs crashes, like so:
-> http://www.kiberpipa.org/~ike/depo/build.log

If I mask the package, gnome-games won't install and neither will gnome then .
libggz is at latest (0.0.14.1), and there is no newer version out there, as per http://www.ggzgamingzone.org/.
I cannot hotfix the configure file in /var/tmp/portage, as it gets regenerated with each emerge attempt. Nor can I remove it as dep in the gnome-games .ebuild file, as that causes a hash mismatch (both correctly!). So, I need this package but cannot emerge it. What do I do now?
stage3 latest, portage latest, gentoo-sources latest.
If there is any more info I can provide, please state.
Thanks so much for any suggestions. |

Forgot to mention - I already ran both emerge -dNu worls and revdep-rebuild. |

The problem is not related to this particular package. If I am interpreting the output correctly, you are receiving segmentation faults trying to run almost any of the basic utilities. Something is very wrong. My first guess would be hardware failure, but it seems unlikely that your hardware could fail that badly and not kill the kernel too. Please post the output of emerge --info, check that your system is properly cooled, and that all components are receiving power within their specified operating range. Most CPUs should never be above 65 degrees C. A well cooled system at idle can be under 40 degrees C.
Once this problem is found and fixed, you may need to start over. I would not trust any programs compiled on a system that is failing so badly. Once we identify the problem, we can determine with greater certainty whether your current system binaries can be trusted. |
