|
|
I have this Nokia N800 that I wanted to use as kind of a second monitor, where I have the display of my N800 be like a corner or the center of a specific virtual desktop so I can move stuff like a terminal with an ongoing emerge or something there and switch back to my main desktop on my monitor and keep working and still see the progress of the emerge on my N800 from my other virtual desktop, kind of like a poor mans multiple monitor solution.
Hope that explanation makes sense.
I run Gnome w/ compiz and 4 virtual desktops and I have no problem to VNC to my currently visible desktop from my N800, but I want it to statically only be connected to like let's say the virtual desktop (or a part of) to the right of my main desktop.
I've looked into the VNC man and searched info but haven't found any information if this even is possible? _________________ Gentoo | AMD X2 3800+ 2GB RAM | Kernel 2.6.30 . ReiserFS . CFQ . GCC4.3.3 | Firefox 3.5 | Gnome 2.26 w/ Compiz-Fusion

I doubt it's possible, vnc and similar comunicate directly with (or act as) the X server, whereas virtual desktops are controlled by the window manager, so the X server wouldn't really know anything about them.
Have you played around with x11vnc?
It's basically a vnc server allowing you to connect to a normal X session which is already running.
May not be quite as efficient, but it has some options which may be of great use to you, namely -id or -sid, which allows you to select a specific window rather than the entire desktop, and -clip which should do more or less what you want, but I have no idea how it'll manage virtual desktop switches...
Hopefully -is or -sid will work even if the window is minimised, shaded or iconified.
If you'll only be using it for console apps anyways, how abouts running them within screen on your desktop, then when you want to you can disconnect from them, ssh in from you nokia, and re-connect to the screen session? _________________ "You have to invite me in" |
