OK. Am using compiz-fusion-0.7.6.
All related packages are also 0.7.6.
Issues:
1) The worst one. Many windows don't have their contents rendered unless I resize the window. It still behaves fine - if I click where I think a button is, or if it's a console and I type, the actions still occur. I just can't see it. Resizing renders the window, but then gets stuck on the newly rendered window as well. I usually have to keep resizing till at some point, the contents remain rendered (i.e. if I start typing, it'll actually display that I'm typing). What's causing this and how do I fix it?
2) conky doesn't show up on the screen when I run it.
3) Playing videos kinda works. If I do Alt-Tab or any of the fancy window switching plugins, it shows the media player (mplayer/Xine) playing the video, but the video is not scaled down/up. Instead it just shows a "crop" of the video. I think I had this working once in the past (for version 0.5.x) because I have the following line in my mplayer config file (which I commented out at some point):
vo=gl:yuv=5
Uncommenting it does not fix the problem, though.
Problem 1 is a killer for me. It's a pain to have to keep resizing windows till it works.
Video card = ATI Radeon 8500LE. Using the open source drivers. Don't tell me to use the ATI drivers. Recent ones don't support the card, and older ones are worse than the open source one.
Ideas? _________________ Beetle B.

Hi,
I have same problem with nvidia 6200, but i giveup and using now ~x86 gnome and metacity. Enabled metacity own composite and no problem any more.
This is not solution, but something is maybe wrong xorg.conf or compiz itself.

Get xf86-video-ati-6.9.x, and make sure to always select the textured Xv adaptor instead of the overlay. That'll fix your Xv issues.
3D apps in compiz don't render right due to the DRI redirection problem; you'll have to wait until we finish DRI2 for Radeons. _________________ Don't believe the "n00b" under my name. |

@filmaraker,
Which of the problems that I have did you also have?

By "solving XV issues", are you referring to the mplayer/Xine video output?
xf86-video-ati is open source? I'm wondering if that's the one I'm using. eselect opengl shows xorg-x11. I have an older version installed.

This is referring to my problem 1 in my first post? That really sucks if there's no current solution. _________________ Beetle B.

I have all problems with it's you also.
I don't remember what i did, but changing xorg.conf and merged different version drivers, solving XV issues.
I thing compiz do something what must be disabled in xorg.conf, in your hardware.
Have you test changing xorg.conf, ex: empty device Options settings ?
And add back one by one.
I have usual fixed always all problems changing USE flags and xorg.conf.
And running emerge --sync;
Checking all USE flags by ebuild;
emerge --deep --newuse --update world;
emerge --depclean;
revdep-rebuild -X
What USE flags you use ?

You failed to mention which version of CF you are using. I have had a much easier time using the git version than I had with the stable version... but that assumes that the issue is related to CF. If the issue is a driver issue, this will not help you. I am running an ATI x1600 in my laptop, proprietary drivers. |

Umm...Don't think so.
Unless you mean how I installed it? Through the desktop effects overlay _________________ Beetle B.

Yes.

Long story short, the "radeon" driver is in the xf86-video-ati package. "xorg-x11" means Mesa, which is probably correct.

Well, there is a solution, but we haven't implemented it yet. http://dri.freedesktop.org/wiki/DirectRenderingToRedirectedWindows
Intel drivers have an experimental kind of DRI2 that solves the problem, although it won't be released until Mesa 7.3. By that time, we'll hopefully be able to bring that code to Radeons as well. _________________ Don't believe the "n00b" under my name. |
