Hi,

I'm rebuilding 2nd Gentoo system(at first, it had been working for years, but these days I've got hardware trouble. I have installed some with the old broken hardware, but I renewed today, and this trouble began), but seeing a strange phenomenon; I have an 8139 based nic on the box, so I loaded 8139too, and enabled /etc/init.d/net.eth0. However, net.eth0 says:
Code:
network interface eth0 does not exist
Please verify hardware or kernel module (driver)

lsmod shows 8139too is loaded. However ifconfig also shows there's only one interface (lo). I started net.eth0 manually, but I got the same result and error messages.

I also tried other device (tulip), but in vain.

What's wrong with it? Kernel is 2.6.25.

Thanks in advance!

edit: now I'm on the way of rebuilding, so I have only a limited number of Linux tools installed.

I installed Windows xp and confirmed my 8139 based nic worked fine.

With Gentoo's livecd, lcpci detects this nic (as a matter of course because kernel module 8139too can be loaded.)

I found an interesting thing again. Gentoo's livecd can detect my nic as eth0. So my setting is wrong somewhere. Any help would be appreciated.
