|
|
I'm trying to set up virt-manager to use as a front end for KVM. I've emerged virt-manager, and libvirt, and all their dependencies, but when I try to actually run virt-manager, I get an error telling me I need to start libvirtd.
Unfortunately, /etc/init.d/libvirtd (or variations of this) doesn't exist. Did I miss something obvious? |

Where is the code trying to read from? It is written in python I seem to remember, so simple enough to scan through |

Which code? Virt-Manager?
My understanding from running it on other distros is that usually libvirtd is a service that does need to be started, so it would make sense that it would ask for it if it isn't running (which it isn't) |

The ChangeLog in /usr/portage/app-emulation/libvirt shows this:
*libvirt-0.4.4 (08 Jul 2008)
08 Jul 2008; Lance Albertson <ramereth@gentoo.org>
+files/libvirt-0.4.4-kvm-cdrom-fix.patch, +files/libvirtd.confd,
+files/libvirtd.init, metadata.xml, +libvirt-0.4.4.ebuild:
* Bump version
* Add init scripts for libvirtd
I believe I'm running -r1, so maybe there is a disconnect there. I'll try to figure out the differences between 0.4.4 and 0.4.4-r1 |

Ok, so my fix was to use 0.4.4 instead of 0.4.4-r1
I don't know if this was the proper way to do it or not, but I essentially copied the 0.4.4 ebuild to my overlay dir, renamed it to 0.4.4-r1, did the rest of the overlay junk, and emerged libvirt again. |

My fix was:
Code: | echo "app-emulation/libvirt lvm server" >> /etc/portage/package.use |
Probably the "lvm" use flag isn't necessary, but I want lvm support as well as server support. |

Same with me here.
it's the "server" flag wich is activating libvirtd according to the useflags,
But did anybody of you get the group rights correct?

I can't create a new virtual machine with a regular user. Seems to work with root though. I haven't looked into this permission issue yet, but I'd be interested to get that fixed. |

Im working on this, too - after I sorted out which kernel module I missed yesterday.
But virt-manager is the best ui I found until now. And works and promising
