So the electric bill is no longer included in rent, I turned on 5 old iron servers last month, and my bill shot up $150! (And it's hot as hell!) Before I "consolidate" -- marketing word! --, what's the scoop on Intel's VT and virtualization software? I'll be looking to buy used hardware for a system that can host >12 guests. Xen is looking very nice, with VT support; and does VMWare care if I'm testing stuff for work on their "personal" server edition? _________________ "Here on the moon, our weekends are so advanced, they encompass the entire week." ~ Ignignokt |

Xen is nice... hard to set up, though...
I'd take a look at qemu (with kvm)... it does lots of cool stuff that you want. _________________ iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAA

mmm. It has the platforms that I'd need, except 64-bit SPARC .
The drawback to QEMU is hardware. I'd like to use Intel or AMD's VT so that it's a rather snappy virtual server, even if not brand new. _________________ "Here on the moon, our weekends are so advanced, they encompass the entire week." ~ Ignignokt |

| - I've got to admit, the cross-platform stuff isn't good in qemu - and no kvm with it... Quote: |

using KVM with AMD VT right now - works great... _________________ iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAA
