Hi, I want to install Gentoo on my PC with Core 2 Duo processor, but I can not found the livecd version of the IA64 architecture image in the mirrors (i.e. http://de-mirror.org/distro/gentoo/releases/ia64/current/ ). What can I do?
Thank you.
Edit:
I've noticed that Core 2 Duo isn't IA64, it's x86-64. But there is no such architecture option in the mirror, or maybe I should use the AMD64 version? Are Core 2 Duo and AMD64 chips processor instructions fully compatible? I think no, for example AMD's 3D-Now is not accessinle in Core 2 Duo. |

Hello,
You need to use amd64.
From the handbook
Any AMD64 CPU or EM64T CPU (Core 2 Duo & Quad processors are EM64T)
Dont use IA64, it doesnt have anything to do with your cpu.
I found it confussing as well at the beginning but afaik it is amd64 because amd released their 64 bits cpu before than intel.
