I'm trying to install linux on my nasdisk (sh4 processor) I can't connect any mouse, keyboard or monitor to the device. Only option is to connect the disk to my x86 computer!
Can I make a bootable system for the sh4-processor on x86 machine? |

Yes you can, but all in all its pretty complex (particularly the kernel as there may be custom modules from the manufacturers).
You\'re probably better off at looking for a custom distro though, and depending on the make and model of NAS you may get some mileage out of http://www.nslu2-linux.org/.

nslu2 is for a ARM processor
isn't ARM much different from SH4? |

My mistake nslu2 is primarily ARM although it has worked on other NAS and I blithely assumed that you might get some mileage out of trying it.
You still might want to try searching for a custom distro as opposed to cross-compiling. A quick google turned up http://www.sh-linux.org/.
Might be worth asking in #gentoo-embedded in IRC (or mailing list or forum).
Apologies for wasting your time,
