Hello,

I am attempting to setup conservative scaling on my via C7, but when I try to modprobe the e_powersaver module I get this error:

Code:

modprobe e_powersaver
FATAL: Error inserting e_powersaver (/lib/modules/2.6.25-gentoo-r7/kernel/arch/x86/kernel/cpu/cpufreq/e_powersaver.ko): No such device

and when I try to start cpufrequtils, I get this error:
Code:

/etc/init.d/cpufrequtils start
 * Enabling conservative cpufreq governor on CPU0 ...                                                                    [ !! ]unknown or unhandled CPU?

Code:

uname -a
Linux hawthorne 2.6.25-gentoo-r7 #1 SMP Tue Sep 2 18:44:51 MST 2008 i686 VIA C7-D Processor 1500MHz CentaurHauls GNU/Linux

thanks for any help... I think it might be a wrong architecture or something. I believe I'm using x86, but this isn't for sure, how would I check?

My guess is :

PC-compatible

CONFIG_X86_PC

Location:
-> Processor type and features
-> Subarchitecture Type (<choice> [=y])

of your kernel config file.

Also there is a selection for the type of architecture in:

Location:
-> Processor type and features
-> Processor family (<choice> [=y])

Yours would be VIA C7

CONFIG_MVIAC7:

:)
