hi there
commands, which works with usb-drive kills the system
example: command
rsync -avu /usr/portage/distfiles/* /media/FLASH/gentoo/distfiles
copies about 1/3 (200 files) files and the system freezes... the copying via konqueror works the same... :-(
fs is ntfs (ntfs-3g), with fat it was the same troubles
any ideas how to debug this? :-(

how does it "freeze"? can you still log in on a different console or over the network and check stuff (dmesg)? how about other usb-drives/different filesystems? in which state is the fs on the usb-drive? _________________ DUMM KLICKT GUT. |

the system doesn't responding, only reset button helps
other drives i actually haven't try yet - it'll be tomorrow (with trying of 2.6.24 kernel)
on ntfs and fat problem reproducing each time, on ext3 full distfiles folder has been copied (~800files and 2.2gb+) without such crushing... |

changing all =y in kernle's config to =m on usb-dependent modules solved the problem
the several test cycles on cp/mv/rm operations on usb stick completed successfully |

so, as i said before - the gentoo-sources with all my attempts of fixing the trouble fails
but with vanilla-sources i already work more than 2 weeks without any troubles. so i think then some of gentoo kernel patches make this terrible effect
