Ich habe auf meinem Notebook (Dell Inspiron 8200) Gentoo und WinXP parallel installiert. Es kommt nun zu folgendem Phänomen:
Gentoo läuft ohne Problem, aber WinXP bleibt von Zeit zu Zeit bei booten hängen. Schwarzer Bildschirm nach dem Logo mit dem Ladebalken. Der Abgesicherte Modus geht immer. Nach einem Booten von Gentoo und dem Ausführen von lilo kann ich Windows wieder starten  . Und das alles obwohl ich vorher nichts geändert habe (Kernel / Partitionierung o.ä.).
Ich benutze lilo 22.5.1 und meine lilo.conf sieht folgendermaßen aus:

Leider ist der Fehler Deiner Parallel-Installation in einer fehlerhaften Partitionstabelle zu suchen. Windows 2000/XP und Linux benutzen nicht exakt das gleiche Format bei der Partitionierung. Haeufig kann Windows diese Unterschiede ausbalancieren, aber nicht immer.
Als Reparatur-Strategie schlage ich vor:
- Backup von Gentoo
- Alle Gentoo-Partitionen loeschen
- mit chkdsk /f WinXP-Partitionen pruefen.
- Ueber Windows XP Reparatur-Konsole (Windows-Installations-CD) neuen Bootsektor mit fixboot schreiben
- neue Gentoo-Partitionen in Windows-XP!!! anlegen, aber ohne Formatierung.
- Mit Hilfe der Gentoo-CD booten
- Gentoo-Partitionen formatieren
- Gentoo-Backup restaurieren.
- Mit chroot mit einer Shell auf die Harddisk root wechseln.
- lilo
Das ist viel Arbeit und leider aergerlich.
Uebrigens vermeide ich generell Linux vom Masterbootsektor zu
booten.
Besser ist es, Linux vom Windows XP -Bootmaster zu booten.
Ich hoffe, dass Dir diese Hinweise ein wenig weiter helfen.

Muss natuerlich Windows-XP-Bootmanager heissen.
Und das geht bekanntlich nur, wenn die Startpartition C: mit FAT formatiert ist ...
