Hi,

I have a Dell D420 running gentoo. The parallel Port module is build and autoloaded by udev, but there is no device created for the port. Any Idea?

Might be silly:
Is it enabled in BIOS?

I too, don't have /dev/lp - until I turn on my printer. Then I *still* don't have /dev/lp - but I have /dev/usb/usblp0 on my lappy with Ubuntu. I don't have access to my desktop now so can't check if it is the same with Gentoo. You might check what rules are used in udev (/etc/udev) where it is added to.

On my machine I have to load lp, parport_pc, and parport to get my parallel port working with my printer...
Not sure if this is the problem but, it's more ideas?
