openVCP configure error (iptables-dev)

Has anyone gotten openvcpd to compile? The configure script complains that it can't find libiptables (and suggests that it is in iptables-dev which would make sense should this be a binary distribution). I have libiptables.a in /usr/lib but that's it.

Any ideas?

Show me aproropriate pert oc ./configure log (to see what test actually failed).
