Well, it seems my alsa 'sort of' has a problem. Whenever i try to run alsaconf from boot, it tells me that there are no devices detected. However, my sound works fine, it is Intel HD Audio which is built into my motherboard. Anyways, i build the correct driver and everything into the kernel. Well, everytime i reboot, i have to go back and run alsamixer, and turn the front channel back up, master and PCM stay at 100%, but I always ahve to turn front back up, it goes to zero on reboot. how do I fix these problems?

thanks

Do you have alsa-utils installed? If so, did you remember to add alsasound to the boot runlevel? (It tells you how when you emerge alsa-utils)

alsa-utils has already been emerged and alsasound is already in the default runlevel. So that isn't it...seems odd, since the sound works fine, that it woudl say there is no card...anyways, any more tips would be great.

thanks

It belongs in the boot runlevel, not default. Use rc-update or "eselect rc" to remove it from default and add it to boot and see if it helps. Also, what nightmorph said. :)

alright, I took it off of the default runlevel and added it to boot. Also, my /etc/conf.d/alsasound is configured correctly, so thats not it either. I am still getting the same behaviour too. don't know if it was missed when i posted earlier, but when i run alsaconf from root, it tells me there are no pci devices and wants to search legacy, however, my device is considered PCI even though it is on board...since the last install i did I had the same options and it worked fine, but alsaconf also worked fine...

thanks for the help, any other suggetions would be great.
