Just installed Gentoo following the handbook but when I reboot it does not have an internet connection.
It says that there is no dhcp client installed.
I am sure I ran emerge dhcpcd when installing but can not be sure. What can I do now as emerge dhcpcd doesn't work with no internet connection.
THanks,

start working from the livecd chroot
http://www.gentoo-wiki.com/Chroot_from_a_livecd
then you have access to internet and all that. _________________ English is not my native language, please notify me of any mistakes. |

Try eth0 dhcp as root. |

Good idea thanks; chrooted into my system, ran emerge dhcpcd and this was the output
Code: | !!! /etc/make.profile is not a symlink and will probably prevent most merges.
!!! It should point into a profile within /usr/portage/profiles/
!!! (You can safely ignore this message when syncing. It's harmless.)
Calculating dependencies \
emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "dhcpcd". |
Any ideas |

you didn't install a portage snapshot yet, i think... or you're still in the livecd _________________ English is not my native language, please notify me of any mistakes. |

1. If you didn't install a portage snapshot (ls /usr/portage/ is empty) try syncing the repository (emerge --sync).
2. If after syncing the symlink /etc/make.profile is invalid try making a proper one (browse /usr/portage/profiles/).
Good luck. |
