Hi
I want to ask you about qt/kde4 compile times compared to qt/kde3, especially kdelibs4 vs kdelibs3.
And, qt3support flag means that after I emerge qt4 I don't need qt3 anymore?
Thanks! |

That is on an AMD X2-5600+ with 2 gigs. |

No, I don't think so. I only have KDE-4 installed and portage still pulled parts of KDE-3.5 including QT-3. |

One should note that the qt4-ebuilds are split, so you cannot compare qt-4.4.1's 16 second to qt-3.3.8b's 8 minutes. |

No, programs making use of Qt3 still need Qt3.
The Qt3Support module is for programmers to help them converting to Qt4. Instead of spending time converting to Qt4, they can use a tool that lets the program make use of Qt3Support and then take the time to properly convert everything. In short: Qt3Support is actually Qt4 so it won't work with real Qt3 programs.
It sounds complexer than it really is. |

Code: | * kde-base/kdelibs-4.1.68
Emerged at: Do Okt 2 10:09:39 2008
Build time: 1 hour, 4 minutes, and 28 seconds
* kde-base/kdelibs-3.5.10
Emerged at: Mo Sep 15 19:05:04 2008
Build time: 38 minutes, and 55 seconds |
Hmm interesting. Compile times seem to be bad, having an X2 5200+ and 4 GB RAM...
@Nephilim666: x86 or amd64? |

If you plan to use GNOME libraries too then it would be very interesting to use it.
I'm not sure if the Phonon GStreamer backend requires it or not.
Maybe the new GtkStyle needs it too, not sure.
If you want the GStreamer backend for example and disable the GLib event loop, check if configure wants to compile the GStreamer backend. If not, enable the GLib event loop |
