I'd link to update my gcc, of course via emerge, but I am worrying about possible consequences:
The last time I updated gcc (not with gentoo) I destroyed my whole system.
Will I have to recompile everything or does it work as before?

It works like a champ. I haven't had any problems yet and I've emerge new revs three times.
It's what made me switch to Gentoo from RedHat. |

That's fine!
I have also used Redhat and the result of updating gcc was that I
%§#?&! up my whole system. |
