|
|
So my mythbox appears to be completely FUBAR and I was considering reinstalling. Then I remember that I have my media disks as a RAID 0 and I was wondering if there's a way to reinstall without loosing all the data? Much of it is fairly easy to copy off, I just don't want to have to go through all that trouble of getting it off and getting it back on the drives.
Anyone know a way? _________________ "it's like sex, except over ssh" ~Valkura

even if you forget the config file containing the raid info (mdadm.conf or raidtab or whatever) you can always re-assemble a linux software raid array if you know which devices are part of the array.
hell, you can put the disks on different ata/sata ports or even on another controller, and still re-assemble the array. read through the mdadm man page.
edit: come to think of it, my server, which has 2 raid0's and 1 raid1 has NO raid config file whatsoever. the raid subsystem always finds the disks and assembles them perfectly. of course I should probably generate a config file just in case :) |

Cool, thanks. I just wanted to make 100% certain that I'd be okay. _________________ "it's like sex, except over ssh" ~Valkura
