|
|
This is more of a windows question than a gentoo question because the gentoo side is working fine.
I have several gentoo boxes i manage, and i use putty to connect to them via ssh. I had to re-install my winxp box because it had some problems, i downloaded putty (version 0.60) and now i can't connect to any ssh enabled machine.
When i try to connect i get the error "Connection refused". I can connect just fine with other machines so sshd is running on the server(s).
I tried disabling the windows firewall, i tried using zone-alarm instead of the windows firewall, all without success. For some reason windows won't allow outgoing connections on port 22.
Since it doesn't work with the firewalls disabled, I have no idea where to look for a solution (except this forum of course )
I connect to the internet via a cable modem, but since it has worked before the re-install, i don't thing that has anything to do with it. It must be some weird windows thing...
Any help would be appreciated.

The server is configured just fine, i can connect to it from another computer.
The client (win XP) doesn't have to have port 22 open for incoming packets to be able to use a ssh client afaik. |

Ok... I found the problem... And as usual it was easy to solve and completely my own fault
It seems I had configured the sshd of the box i was trying to connect to on port 443 (so i can connect to it through a proxy server), and disabled port 22.
I did this years ago, and i forgot about it because i always connect to it from the same box, with pre-configured settings...
I'm gonna hide away in shame now |
