I configured the kernel a few times. I made sure the I have the BMAC (G3 ethernet) driver compiled into the kernel and not as a module. When I boot the imac up, at runtime dhcp runs for eth0 but says the driver doesn't exist. Any advice? Thanks guys!
Also, when I type date, I get Local time zone must be set--see zic manual page. I forget how to get rid of this. Do I need to copy my time zone to the /etc/timezone?

Grep for eth directly after booting in the dmesg info: dmesg | grep -i eth. And post the output of ifconfig too. Maybe you need the MACE driver _________________ Please add [solved] to the initial post's subject line if you feel your problem is resolved. Help answer the unanswered

Silian SC92031 PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter driver 2.0c
Driver 'st' needs updating - please use bus_type methods
Driver 'sd' needs updating - please use bus_type methods
Driver 'sr' needs updating - please use bus_type methods
ifconfig just shows the loopback
nothing else.
I'll look for the silian driver in the kernel. Thanks for a point in the right direction!
Already got that driver compiled in, I just compiled in the MACE, BMAC, and that Silian driver. Let's see how it works now. :] |

That's no apple hardware. The driver you're looking for is "Silan SC92031 PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter driver (EXPERIMENTAL) (NEW)". You'll need to enable "EISA, VLB, PCI and on board controllers" too or you won't find that driver.
Oh, and ifconfig -a should show all network devices the kernel has loaded a driver for. _________________ Please add [solved] to the initial post's subject line if you feel your problem is resolved. Help answer the unanswered

Under what section is that EISA, etc located? Can't find it anywhere... |

Code: | Device Drivers --->
Network device support --->
Ethernet (10 or 100Mbit) --->
EISA, VLB, PCI and on board controllers |
In menuconfig you can also press '/' and enter a search string _________________ Please add [solved] to the initial post's subject line if you feel your problem is resolved. Help answer the unanswered

Hey, thanks! I've been using Gentoo for a while, I never knew about the search function of a kernel config. Going to go try to get the kernel done now. Thanks again!
Damn. It's already compiled in. What else should I look for? |

Can't use lspci when I boot up the IMac for some reason, but I booted from the LiveCD and said I had a different ethernet card than the Silan card. Recompiled kernel -> works! Thanks for the help! |
