This box used to be an x86 desktop, but I got a new main box so I decided to use it as a ~x86 hardened server for kicks. Anyway, that being said, I've been trying to get rid of all the x11, java, media, etc stuff I can. Was doing some cleaning and I noticed this:

[nomerge ] sys-apps/lm_sensors-2.10.7 USE="-sensord"
[ebuild N ] x11-misc/read-edid-1.4.1-r1 0 kB

What can I do about this? I don't want read-edid.

drat.. foiled again :P

(hint: I'm the developer of read-edid now)

I'm not sure why, but lm_sensors has a direct dependency on this package - I think it uses part of parse-edid or something...

Hey, it's small - just install it :D

I think there's some obscure function that uses it - not sure though.

If you're only using lm_sensors for temperature and voltage, you should be fine..

..but srsly.. I think you can spare a few hundred KB :P

But the latest read-edid (read-edid-1.4.1-r1) - as I'm sure you are aware - fails with linux headers 2.6.26 so maybe it should be patched to either fix that issue or removed as a dependency? Mind you that could lead to weird bugs with lm_sensors.

only an issue with read-edid. parse-edid builds fine everywhere.

Besides, there is not only a patch for 1.4.1, I released 1.4.2 specifically to fix that issue, and 2.0.0 should work everywhere (with an extra dependency of libx86)

There are bugs in the bigzilla for this, but the gentoo devs still have to get their acts together and put the two new ebuilds (which I wrote and made sure were alright) in the tree.

Code:
# emerge -pDv world

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating world dependencies |
!!! All ebuilds that could satisfy ">=dev-libs/libx86-1.1" have been masked.
!!! One of the following masked packages is required to complete your request:
- dev-libs/libx86-1.1-r1 (masked by: ~amd64 keyword)
- dev-libs/libx86-1.1 (masked by: ~amd64 keyword)

For more information, see MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge man page or
refer to the Gentoo Handbook.
(dependency required by "x11-misc/read-edid-2.0.0" [ebuild])

!!! Problem resolving dependencies for sys-apps/lm_sensors
!!! Depgraph creation failed.

Hmmm... Well that doesn't yet work so well... Time to check the amd64 status of dev-libs/libx86 I guess. Or maybe just make sure sys-apps/lm_sensors x11-misc/read-edid and now dev-libs/libx86 all pick the same keyword. (Either all with ~amd64 or all without...)

Actually they are in portage now.
