Hi,
I'm currently trying to install 1.4_rc4, and have got stuck at the bootstrap.sh stage. I'm getting the following error message:
Code: |
checking which gcc option to use... -fPIC
configure: error: shared libraries are not supported in this version
!!! ERROR: sys-libs/ncurses-5.3-4c1 failed.
!!! Function econf, Line 320, Exitcode 1.
!!! econf failed.
|
I'm somewhat at a loss as to how to get past this... |

Oops. I've spent a bit more time searching for other people with this error and discovered it could be due to an incorrectly set CHOST... I'm going to try changing that and see what happens... |

An incredibly fast P166 . Mainly going to use it as a router, and also to learn about gentoo. I think changing CHOST from 'i586' to 'i586-x86-linux-pc' has fixed that particular error, though. Now to wait an eternity to find out if it'll get all the way...
I think the comment should be made a bit clearer in make.conf though, it just says "replace this with i586, ..." rather than "replace i686 with i586, ...". |
