I have a strange problem with this most recent Gentoo installation, in my Terminal where "localhost" would usually go it's loading my MAC address I've searched around in my /etc/hosts file and have seen nothing that looks amiss. Not sure where else to look or how to fix this, I'm thinking I may have missed a step in my Gentoo installation.

Here is an example of what it looks like in my terminal:
Code:

x1-6-00-14-85-2c-97-f8 ~ # cd /etc
x1-6-00-14-85-2c-97-f8 etc # cd /usr/src/linux
x1-6-00-14-85-2c-97-f8 linux # cd ~

My /etc/hostname is set up correctly with "localhost"
however when I run the command hostname it returns "x1-6-00-14-85-2c-97-f8"

Either dhcpcd or dhclient looked up the hostname in DNS and replaced localhost with it.

I use DHCPCD and have it sending the "nosendhost" when it runs on init. But it is still doing this, is there any other commands I should be sending? I've looked around the forum and can't find anything.

If you're using dhcpcd-4, try removing the host_name option from /etc/dhcpcd.conf
