Hi,
will I be able to compile gentoo with the 1.4 final live-cd from scratch with gcc 3.3? |

As from what I've been told you would half to be insane to use gcc 3.3 from scratch, best to stick with the 3.2 series for now. Someone correct me if I am wrong, please. _________________ The idea of achieving security through national armament is, at the present state of military technique, a disastrous illusion.

I'm not sure if gcc 3.3 is fully compatible with the latest versions of glibc and xfree86 but I've managed to compile all of my KDE stuff with it w/o problems. Will I really be doomed if I use gcc3.3 to compile gentoo completely from scratch?? What about gcc 3.3.1 cvs? |

The general consensus is the area to NOT be aggressive in is the compiler. GCC has been rather problematic through the 3 series, and the portage tree features many thousands of ebuilds that only tested with the current portage version of gcc.
It's one of the few areas that when you install ahead of the crowd, you can run into real problems. Really wouldn't recommend it.
