Whenever I reboot the boot messages tell me that it's
* Loading: snd-card-0 ... [ ok ]
* Loading: snd-seq-oss ... [ ok ]
* Loading: snd-pcm-oss ... [ ok ]
* Restoring Mixer Levels ... [ ok ]
and starting timidity. But in order to get sound I have to manually unmute every channel with alsamixer, and to get midi working I have to run alsaconf and restart timidity.
So... I'm SO totally all like what's up with that? _________________ "Some smart quote" -Some cult guy |

How do you start timidity ? What is your /etc/modprobe.d/alsa file? Do you have any ~/.asoundrc? If yes, try without it. _________________ "Confirm You are a robot." - the singularity |

I start timidity by having added it to the default run level.
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa does not exist.
I don't have any ~/.asoundrc _________________ "Some smart quote" -Some cult guy |

Be aware that the timidity server will use the pcm device called default.
If you have a second sound card, as example an USB webcam with built-in mic, this device can be loaded before your regular sound card at boot time and become the default pcm device. In such case, you have to write an alsa configuration file by hand where you put the index option for each sound card and the cards_limit option. _________________ "Confirm You are a robot." - the singularity |
