Hey,
hope someone of you guys had the same problem or has a solution for this. I am really sick of it. The problem occurs when copying or moving larger or GB of files from partition hda3 to hda4. Its reproducible and occurs like this: After starting an cp -a or mv command /var/log/messages is floated with an "__find_get_block_slow() failed." error and grows to several hundreds of MB in seconds. The cp or mv command stops working and is not killable anymore and runs the CPU at 100%.
Its an ide drive with ext3 filesystems for hda3 and hda4. I have the problem with several HDD, the actual one is brandnew. I also checked the RAM, no errors detected. Kernel is configured with ATA support, not with the experimental PATA (libata) support and the via chipset support is build inside the kernel image.
machine is already a bit older:
Athlon64, ASUS K8V board with Via KT800 chipset
nVidia GeForce 7600 GT AGP
System:
gentoo 2008.0 x86/32bit stable system
Linux 2.6.25-gentoo-r9 #1 PREEMPT i686
nvidia-drivers-173.14.09
Many thanks for your help, greetings,
