Posted: Wed Nov 26, 2008 4:23 am Post subject: Gentoo Compatible SATA PCI controller? [SOLVED] |
|
|
I've got 3 HDs:
PATA 250 GB
PATA 250 GB
SATA 1.5TB
My mother board has no SATA controller. I would like to boot from the 1.5TB drive and run the two 250GB drives in RAID1. Right now I'm using a PATA to SATA converter (little bridge type thing that converts commands), and it creates input/output errors left and right, so that's no good.
I was hoping to buy a PCI card that gentoo can recognize that can run as an SATA controller. An added bonus would be RAID1 capabilities for PATA, but if not software RAID will work fine.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

am i right that you are looking for a combined sata pata controller? there is the Promise SATA300 TX2plus (2+1 SATA/PATA Controller) where you can attach 2 sata and 2 pata drives. but i would suggest you to buy a cheap sata controller, attach the sata drive and use the onboard pata controller for the 2 pata drives - using software raid 1. that would be the cheapest solution...

I was thinking that. Hardware raid would be faster, but to get a controller that didn't use the CPU would probably be expensive. Thanks for the link, I'll check it out.
Anyone know any other SATA controllers that would work with Gentoo? |

Just bought me an SATA Controller from vantec! Runs like a charm on gentoo, didn't even need to do anything, it just worked off the bat.
In case anyone else needs an SATA controller for linux, get something with the sil3512ECTU128 chip. |
