could anyone give me an advice on what 64bit i should use? i am setting up a new server. IBMx3610(794242X), Xeon QC e5405 80W 2.0GHz 1333MHz, 7GB Memory. and 4 250GB hot swap sata.
i am used to i686 in my desktop, but i want to try a 64bit in this server, but i am confuse as to what i should download, ia64 or ppc64 .
i've already installed i686 2 days ago and was working just fine, but i messed it up while i was setting up the raid-1. and now i want a fresh start, so i might as well try 64bit.
i really need an advice on this one. _________________ jai guru deva om |

Neither. You should use amd64. IA64 is Itanium and ppc64 is (obviously) a 64 bit powerpc chip (the architecture that apple used to use).
amd64 is for amd64 and EM64T chips. Your Xeon is the latter. The arch is called amd because intel sucked big time at the moment and was not the first to introduce 64 bit x86 compatible chips. |
