Hi,
yesterday updated our Gentoo-based Xen-Hypervisor-Machine (last updated 20. Sept. 2008).
After the update was thru, I finished checking all tasks from /var/log/portage/elog/summary.log and rebooted the machine, I was unable to create a domU-Machine. I always got
Device 0 (vif) could not be connected. Hotplug scripts not working
So I checked everything, tried everything, searched, the Forums, read Xen Docs, ... Nothing helped.
Then I checked udev and found, there were no Xen-Rules while another Hypervisor (SLES10) does have a Ruleset for Xen which calls back into the Xen-Scripts.
I copied that Script over to the gentoo-Box -- and was able to create a domU like I was before the Update.
So, did I miss something here? Didn't I install a Port I should have in order to get the udev-Rules?
Would be nice to get some hints; while I'm glad everything works again I'd like to know was was/is going wrong here.
[Edit]
Just checked my Gentoo-Xen-Box @home; there I have a file
/etc/udev/rules.d/xen-backend.rules
However, when running
equery belongs /etc/udev/rules.d/xen-backend.rules
it seems that this file is orphaned, i.e. it does not belong to any Port
[/Edit]
Cheers,
