Hi.
I'm beginning to create a uclibc Gentoo system and I'm wondering how such a system provides logon facility given that both pam and mingetty require files from glibc. Unless logging on can be done without pam -- have I understood?
Thanks in advance. _________________ Gentoo addict: tomorrow I quit, I promise!... Just one more emerge...

Historically pam was not really 'needed' - it's just a convenience to have something centralized.
I have a non-standard setup that though does use glibc, but instead uses busybox's login, bypassing the need for pam.
Do you need the flexibility of pam? I can't guarantee busybox's login is 'secure' nor is 'flexible' but it seems to work OK for me. _________________ Intel Core i7 2700K/Radeon R7 250/24GB DDR3/256GB SSD

Fine, I thought pam was required .

No, I don't need it. It's just a home-made, small footprint Gentoo Live CD/USB system I'm trying to build. I'm just experimenting, you know...
Thanks a lot. _________________ Gentoo addict: tomorrow I quit, I promise!... Just one more emerge...
