PostPosted: Sat Dec 06, 2008 8:01 pm    Post subject: Opera lock up computer Reply with quote

When I start Opera as a user it hangs the computer when I go into one of my mailfolder. It takes about 3-4 seconds then it locks up the computer and I have to push reset button. I have tried to remove some of the .opera/*.ini files but so far nothing has helped.

I have been using Opera since 2003 and have PLENTY of mail there that i dont want to loose. Also, i have plenty of contacts i don not want to loose.

Where should i start to investigate?

Thanks in advance, Anders

so, opera works fine everywhere but that one site?

try another browser there, and see what hideous javascript is behind it.

I now tried to emerge opera without the ia32 flag as i am using ~amd64 but now it crasches only after a few seconds that i even start Opera. I do not even have a chance to select site or mailfolder...

Quote:
# emerge -vp opera

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild R ] www-client/opera-9.62 USE="-gnome -ia32 -qt-static -qt3-static (-spell)" LINGUAS="sv -be -bg -cs -da -de -el -en -en_GB -es_ES -es_LA -et -fi -fr -fr_CA -fy -hi -hr -hu -id -it -ja -ka -ko -lt -mk -nb -nl -nn -pl -pt -pt_BR -ru -ta -te -tr -uk -zh_CN -zh_TW" 0 kB

Total: 1 package (1 reinstall), Size of downloads: 0 kB

Well, do I feel stupid... How do I mask that version....? :oops:

Quote:
# cat /etc/portage/package.mask
=media-libs/libmad-0.15.1b-r5
>=app-emulation/cedega-5.2
=x11-proto/xproto-7.0.13
>=www-client/opera-9.62
# emerge -vp opera

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild R ] www-client/opera-9.62 USE="-gnome -ia32 -qt-static -qt3-static (-spell)" LINGUAS="sv -be -bg -cs -da -de -el -en -en_GB -es_ES -es_LA -et -fi -fr -fr_CA -fy -hi -hr -hu -id -it -ja -ka -ko -lt -mk -nb -nl -nn -pl -pt -pt_BR -ru -ta -te -tr -uk -zh_CN -zh_TW" 0 kB

Total: 1 package (1 reinstall), Size of downloads: 0 kB

/etc/package.mask:
=www-client/opera-9.62

You could also try to use the opera --personaldir /tmp/ to create a "fresh" install and see if the error persists. Check man opera, maybe you want to try --nomail, too.

Thanks for the reply.

That way to mask 9.62 did not work either. The only thing i can think of is that I have set something with "delete old versions" in /etc/make.conf.

However, i moved the whole ~/.opera directory to ~/_opera, reinstalled 9.62 and it seems rather stable now. Then i did an import on all mails from the ~/opera-folder. All mails got imported BUT, almost everyone is empty. I have not investigated it that much yet but all mails containing attached files and the ones in HTML-format is empty.
