|
|
So I'm trying to fiure out which PowerPC I have for the purposes of getting my sound card to work. I'm not sure whether to use the snd-powermac or the aoa driver.
I've looked at the Apple Product History And Details page and I think I have a G4/350-500 (Sawtooth/AGP). I know I have the Rage 128 AGP graphics card, and I know this is a G4. This still doesn't mean much to me, and certainly doesn't tell me which sound card driver to use.
Can someone shed some light on which PPC I have?
Here is the output of uname -a:
Code: |
Linux hyrule 2.6.26-gentoo-r2 #2 Thu Dec 4 18:42:28 EST 2008 ppc 7400, altivec supported PowerMac3,3 GNU/Linux
|
This is a fresh install and everything has gone smoothly thus far. Also, if anyone has anything specific that they know should be enabled in the kernel to make this thing run a little bit better, please let me know. I notice that sometimes the UI (using gnome) becomes slow at random times.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Also, to find the type of mac you've got, I'd recommend checking /proc/cpuinfo. It will have a line, such as:
Quote: | machine : PowerBook5,9 |
A quick google search will give you the exact model and information. :) _________________ Gentoo PPC FAQ: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-ppc-faq.xml |

If you are far along enough and have compiled the right ALSA drivers try emerging mplayer and trying it that way. In my experience it sometimes seems like things aren't working when you have a new system with unfamiliar device name. By finding a program that works out of the box you can see how it is set up. |

Thanks guys. I was able to identify which mac I have. Though, now I'm not really sure what I want to do with it. I have been having some performance issues. I started another thread to discuss that. I'll grab a link and post it. |

For the G3 you should use the install-powerpc-minimal-2008.0 disc with the stage3-ppc stage. |
