|

Hi all, I have tried to install 64 bit Gentoo inside 32 bit system.
Current system
Code: | gentoobox sda1 # uname -m
i686
gentoobox sda1 # |
I downloaded a stage1(stage1-~core2-2008.12.11.tar.bz2) tarball and portage snapshot from Funtoo and extracted them. After that I have tried to chroot to new system, I get the following error...
Code: | gentoobox sda1 # linux32 chroot . /bin/bash --login
chroot: cannot run command `/bin/bash': Exec format error |
I tried linux64
Code: | gentoobox sda1 # linux64 chroot . /bin/bash --login
chroot: cannot run command `/bin/bash': Exec format error
|
Any idea? _________________

In order to run 64bit code core host operating system must be 64bit. You cannot run a 64bit guest operating system within a 32bit operating system unless you are using an emulator or virtualization software of sorts. |

Why would you want to run x64 on a 32 bit machine anyways?
Yeah, you will need an emulator. But even if there's one, it would be very slow. |

I just had this happen to me too. I couldn't use the minimal Gentoo 64-bit CD because it doesn't support my newer hardware, and I was using a recent SystemRescueCD instead. Turns out I had to reboot and use the rescue64 kernel on that disc instead. |
