Hi
As I'm not one of you lucky folks with a 3d card, my gaming options are a bit more conservative, which is why I decided to give falconseye a peek, since its based on a fun game (nethack) and the graphics are pretty nice.

So, the trouble is, I emerged it and when I try to run it, all I get is a series of dots on the command line (indicating initialization, I assume), and then nothing. I have to ctrl-z out of it (since ctrl-x seems to be captured ?!) and then issue a killall -9 falconseye.

I've mucked with the configuration options, and haven't had any luck otherwise. Any ideas?

Might be related to sound. If you use arts, you can try your luck with "artsdsp -s falconseye", however I've noticed way too many annoying glitches with falconseye on here in general.

Right now for me, it crashes when you enter a shop, has issues trying to load savegames, and sometimes decides to stop recognizing left clicks for movement. It's really annoying. If anyone has solutions for these, it'd be great :)

And then don't even get me started on the assumption made that the jiffies kernel option is set to 100... some of the game timing can be reconfigured in the config files, but it's still annoying.

Hi
Had same problems as BradN.

Found /usr/share/falconseye/jtp_log.txt.
OhLaLa mucho sound problems feedback in there.

The config file told it to run timidity for .mid sound files.
It was not installed !
After reading
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=13022&highlight=timidity
Installed
media-sound/timidity++
media-sound/timidity-eawpatches

Rock solid now: everything works.

I got a bit bored, so decided to give falconseye a go too. I get exactly the same problem with the dots. Anyone got any clues as how to solve it?

cheers.

edit: Turn off all sound and it works.

ctrl-c ?

Anyway, as for alternatives, what about SLASH'EM? It's 2d as well (your none-3d requirements, TomorrowPlusX).
