Hi all,
I have done without for about 6 months and am ready to try and tackle adding printer support to my linux laptop. Because its a laptop I move it around a lot including moving from printer to printer.
I am wondering how to add generic printer (and maybe scanner if thats possible?) support like ubuntu has in gentoo. Im not sure how?
I'm pretty sure I installed all the right device drivers in my kernel for usb and network printing but from what I've read previously in the wiki it looks like you have to specifically set up each printer, I'm not interested in having to do this.
How can I get general printer support without having to configure my system for every printer i connect to?
Thanks. |

From my limited experience, printer support is mostly outside the kernel, besides the parallel port and usb support.
I use cups, which in turn use ppd files (printer driver/definition). So as long as you have cups and have ppd for printer connecting to, you can print. |
