I got a good deal on a Dlink router. it was on sale for like $20.00 new. But when I use it the net freezes up once every 30 minutes for about 60 seconds. It's fusterating. I email tech. support and they said run it without the firewall on. But that kinda sux, cause then i worry about the xbox 360 being exposed. Should I take it back and get a used Linksys router for the same price? Or should I run it without the firewall on since the Dlink was so cheap w/ the rebate? |

Does running it without the firewall actually solve the issue?
This is just a wild guess, and pretty fscked up if it turns out to be true, but to me that kinda sounds like it's acquiring a new ip address from your ISP every thirty minutes... (assuming it's an adsl router and you have a dynamic ip address)
Have you poked around in it's configuration much? _________________ "You have to invite me in" |

I was so mad I disconnected it and packed it up. I can unpack it and try it again with out the firewall. In the config. was the firewall with options to enable and disable certin ports. What you said about the ip address renewal has good logic to it. Why would it renew the ip address way before the leased ip address is up? What options should I look for in the config to change? |

If/when you try it out, just go to www.whatismyip.org or similar and take note of your public address, then check it again in 40 minutes or so.
Did you have to re-login to things like this forum after the 60 second connection drop? _________________ "You have to invite me in" |
