|
|
I started from a stage 1 tarball. I configured my USE variable to my liking and the other variables. When i issue the bootstrap.sh script i get this after about 1 min of it running:
checking for i686-pc-linux-gnu-g++... g++
checking whether we are using thje GNU C++ compiler... no
checking whether g++ accepts -g... no
checking dependency style g++... none
checking hot to run the C++ proprocessor... lib/cpp
configure: error: C++ preprocessor "lib/cpp" fails sanity check
See 'config.log' for more details
configure: error: /binsh './configure' failed for autoconf-lib-link
!!! ERROR: sysdevel/gettext-0.12.1 failed
!!! Function econf, line 320, Exitcode 1
!!! econf failed
This is the third time am trying to install gentoo and the first two times my network wasn't well configured so i started over. My theory here is that I screwed up somewhere in the make.conf file.

Actually that gettext ebuild has a problem.
Do rm -rf /usr/portage/sys-devel/gettext-0.12* and try to bootstrap again.

I think i got it to work this is what I did:
- I went to the make.conf and commented out the APPEND_KEYWORD (sorry i forgot what it is called, this is what my memory told me it was)
- Then I did emerge sync once again
-I did a bootstrap.sh again and voila
Thanks bro for the helpful tips I appreciate it.

Here is my completely uninformed take on things:
The gettext 0.12.* ebuilds appear to be looking for C++, but stage1 doesn't have g++. When autoconf finds the only partially working c++ preprocessor it bombs out. Bootstrapping with gettext 0.11 seems to work, as it doesn't have these checks.
Upgrading later should be fine. We'll see anyway, I'm bootstrapping with gcc 3.3.1 & glibc 2.3.2 right now |
