LiveCD Start

Just trying to start the LiveCD first since I might want to install this. I actually thought about giving up yesterday but I realized that I can install this and it is worth it. I have been using Debian for a long time and I recently got a new computer with a ATI Radeon HD 4870x2 graphics card. I have yet to install any Linux yet. Oh, also my processor is 64bit. The time I have spent using Debian was on an old Dell laptop where everything configured correctly. Since my hardware is much newer, the X-window system did not start and I get the common EE : RADEON error and No Monitor Found, and it tells me of course to type gdm when it is fixed. I am not sure how to fix this using commands from the LiveCD. Any help getting this started would be appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome to Gentoo.

Please don't use the installer. It will install a system that is about 10 months old that you will then have to update.
Follow the Gentoo Handbook You may need to start with a SystemRescureCD if your hardware is very new, or you can boot the Gentoo CD you have with the nox option as use it as if it were a liveCD.

This way you get todays Gentoo and you learn how to maintain a Gentoo install as you go.
