Using mythgallery, or any other image displayer (firefox, for example), my high resolution photos look grainy in the low end of the colour spectrum. In other words, they don't look good. I think it's a colour depth problem.

xdpyinfo tells me that I'm using DirectColor and 8 bit depth, but my xorg.conf file begs to differ.

Code:

Section "ServerLayout"
    Identifier     "Simple Layout"
    Screen         "Screen0" 0 0
    InputDevice    "Mouse1" "CorePointer"

    EndSubSection

As you can see, I'm using nvidia-drivers. I can't post the exact output of xdpyinfo now, since I am ssh-ing the machine, and the --display flag of xdpyinfo isn't cooperating. Anyways, I need to know how to get Xorg to use 24 bit depth and TrueColor. Any ideas?
Thanks.

take a look at /var/log/Xorg.0.log to see why Xorg switches to 8bit.
Try executing xdpyinfo when as when you are using ssh, you are normaly not connecting to the "real" X server.
Is it possible that there is a hardware faliure or that your monitor is set somewhat odd and causes this problem?
