The EAC/WINE tutorial posted here is from 2005, and I looked it over and tried the tips but nothing works. EAC freezes every time I start it, no matter what.

I am using a SATA optical drive, so is it necessary to enable ide-cd in the kernel? I tried that and it didn't work. I am using the latest version of EAC and kernel 2.6.26-r4 with WINE 1.1.7 (about to upgrade to 1.1.9).

Hi!
EAC works fine here, also with a SATA-drive and wine-1.1.11 (~amd64).
I recognized that with some wine versions it did not work...
Try up/downgrading wine to see if the error persists.

Thanks for the reply.

I upgraded WINE to 1.1.9 and now it works! :P

I am using the external ASPI interface instead of the native Win32/XP one. But it seems to work fine that way.

To get the Win32/XP interface to work with EAC and wine, I had to make a mount-point for the cdrom, put in a entry for it in /etcv/fstab, and then configure the cdrom in winecfg using the *mountpoint* name, *not* the /dev/... name.

It was very counterintuitive because nothing gets mounted when ripping audio CDs, but that is what was needed, at least ~1-2 years ago.

Also use ASPI here without problems. I even let EAC flac my files during the extraction.
I also remember using mount points some months/years ago, but that seems over
Wine is a real strange program, Software which works in one version is totally broken with an update, just to work again in the next version...
