Help required with virt-manager

I'm running xen 3.3.0 with the xen-sources 2.6.21-xen kernel, I've got 2 HVM VMs installed and working. I can connect to the consoles of these VMs using vncviewer however I'm disappointed with the way the mouse pointer behaves with this piece of software.

I an effort to improve the usability of my Windows VM I've installed virt-manager 0.5.4 it all appears to work correctly and I can install a new VM using it however the console within virt manager simply does not work. I get the following error message when i try to open a console for each VM "Console is not yet active for guest".

I can connect and use the VM with vncviewer but I haven't yet found the cause of my problem with virt-manager, can anyone shed any light on this? I've spent the last day looking for a solution with no result.
