i thing i have configure samba properly but how do i now use it to see my windows computers files and to print via the windows computer

There's a program called LinNeighborhood, it's amazingly good at finding other windows networked computers in the LAN. It allows you to mount remote windows drives as folders on your machine. As for printing, dont know much about it

You can also try xfsamba. I preferred that to LinNeighbourhood.
As for the printing bit, there was a short Samba how-to in the Gentoo Printing docs...I didn't manage to get my setup working, but then again I have the patience of a fish.

With samba installed you can use a couple of CLI tools to do the dirty work for you:

- smbclient -L <IP> will list shares on IP
- smbmount I think is pretty self explanetory

There might be a couple more but I can't think of them right now.
